Dave: Because the Universe had a beginning, we know something caused it. That
would be God.Jeff: But in an attempt to get around the beginning of the Universe, some people
have proposed that the Universe has always existed.Dave: This doesn’t hold up philosophically.
Jeff: An infinite amount of time is much more than a really long time.
Dave: It contains more time than you could ever measure.
Jeff: So, if the Universe existed forever into the past we couldn’t have come
through enough moments in time to get to THIS MOMENT RIGHT HERE.Dave: It’s impossible to actually move across an infinite amount of time, because
how much space is between point 1 and point 2?Jeff: An infinite amount! No matter how you cut it up, meaning it would’ve taken
forever to get here…Dave: The very fact we exist right now, shows that the Universe has not always
existed.
