Death BEFORE the Fall?

Dave: If scientists are right, and the Earth is old, would that mean there was
death before sin entered the world?

Jeff: Yeah, probably. But let’s read what the Bible says about death and sin – –
Genesis 2:17 says…

Dave: “you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for
when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Jeff: Who dies? Humans! God says, “You” to Adam and Eve.

Dave: And in Romans 5:12 we read…

Jeff: “sin entered the world through one man… and in this way death came to all
people…”

Dave: To who? The Bible says… to people.

Jeff: We often think that all death was a result of our sin, but that’s not specifically
what the Bible teaches.

Dave: So, it’s not only possible, but Biblical that plants and animals could have
died before sin.

Jeff: If you want to study it yourself, check out the list of God’s curses after
Adam’s sin in Genesis 3 – you’ll find it interesting that nowhere in the list of curses does it list animal death.
