Topic Notes

    Welcome!

  • Review about prophecy
  • Pircing of hands and feet: Psalm 22:16 and Luke 23:33
  • The piercing of his side: Zechariah 12:10 and John 19:34
  • The casting of lots for his garments: Psalm 22:18 and John 19:23-24
  • Compare to Islamic prophecy: Surah 30:2 says “The Romans will be defeated.” Not very specific. When? How? Everyone will be defeated at some point in time.
  • Hindu Prophecy: “Petty – minded people will conduct business transactions and merchants will be dishonest.” (very vague)
  • Hindu Prophecy: “In that age, people will be greedy. They will take to wicked behavior. They will be merciless, indulge in hostilities without any cause, unfortunate, extremely covetous for wealth and women.” (very vague)
  • The Bible predicts: Jesus’ ancestors, the town he will live in, how he will die, where he will be buried, his name, and on and on! (very specific)
The Bible predicted the exact year Jesus Christ would die! Daniel 9:24-27

  • This states that after Jerusalem is rebuilt there will be 7 sets of seven years, and 62 sets of seven years and then the Messiah will die.
  • 7 Sevens = 49 years.
  • 62 Sevens = 434 years.
  • Together: 483 years after the temple is rebuilt until the Messiah dies.
  • This states that there will be 483 years until Messiah dies after the temple is rebuilt.
  • Temple rebuilt in 444 B.C.
  • Jesus died in 33 A.D.
    Conclusion:

  • How many years apart? 477 years apart… Wait a minute, it was supposed to be 483 years… what the??
  • Oooh, wait!!! Israel followed a lunar year, not a solar year like us. That puts them 5 days different than us every year.
  • Over 477 years that equals out to an additional 6 years.
  • 477 + 6 = 483 years.
  • It was exactly 483 years from the time the Temple was rebuilt until Jesus died.
    Let’s talk odds:

  • Having twins: 1 in 50
  • Winning the California lottery: 1 in 41,416,353
  • Being killed on bus ride: 1 in 500,000,000
  • Being killed on airplane: 1 in 4,600,000
  • Winning two lotteries on one day: 1 in 24,000,000,000
How do these odds compare to the prophecies of Jesus?

  • Jesus fulfilled at least 191 prophecies.
  • Mathematicians calculated probability of fulfilling just 48 prophecies: 1 in 10 to 157th power
  • So what does that mean? Only God could have made this circumstances come together in the person known as Jesus Christ.
