• CONTEXT – What is the social and/or scriptural context?
  • Philippians 4:13
  • In context: Philippians 4:11-15
• REVEALED – 1 Corinthians 2:13 – The Spirit reveals things to us that we would not otherwise understand.
  • Misinterpreted: Proverbs 29:18 – “Where there is no vision, the people perish:” (King James Version)
• AUTHOR’S INTENT – What exactly is the author trying to say?
  • Misinterpreted: Matthew 7:1
  • Was Jesus intention for us to NEVER point out when someone is wrong?
  • Ignoring someone’s sin is not the same as not judging them!
  • Was Jesus intention for us to NEVER point out when someone is wrong?
  • Helping people out of sin is a great thing as long as we aren’t casting judgment.
  • So, what should we do? Good choice: Galatians 6:1-2
  • Bible never says punish!
• CREDIBILITY – The author knows what he/she is trying to convey. Hear them out and give them some credit.
  • You’ve heard it said “Money is the root of all evil”. It’s attributed to 1 Timothy 6:10 (Misinterpreted)
  • Read it in context: 1 Timothy 6:9-10
• KNIT TOGETHER – All things in scripture are tied together, just as a thread runs through a piece of cloth.
  • Misinterpreted: 2 Chronicles 7:14-15
  • This is part of the Davidic Covenant. We have to go back many years 2 Samuel 7:12-16
  • THAT IS POINTING TO JESUS!!!!
  • But, for Solomon this promise was conditional: 2 Chronicles 7:19-20
  • Later on – (1 Kings 11) we see Solomon and many others leave God. SO GOD EXILED THEM!!! The Temple was even destroyed.
• EARLY MEANING AND MANUSCRIPT – What do the early manuscripts say? What is its exact meaning?
  • Misinterpreted: Jeremiah 29:11-12
  • Usually we connect this to the early meaning of words… What was the HEBREW, etc.?
  • But, for this – the early meaning of “plans” – what did God mean by “PLANS” for them?
  • What were these good plans? 70 YEARS OF SLAVERY! Jeremiah 29:10-11
• DIALECT – Dialects change, or are different altogether. Understanding the dialect will help to understand the passage.
