The Greatest FEAT Ever!
- Welcome!
- HAPPY EASTER!
- Is the resurrection even logical?
- We know the resurrection is true is because we use the F.E.A.T. acronym
- (F)Fatal Torment – (E)Empty Tomb – (A)Appearances – (T)Transformation
- One thing that we know for sure is that Jesus was a real person.
- We must prove that Jesus actually died
- (F)Fatal Torment:
- He suffered from hematidrosis at the time of His crucifixion
- Jesus endured getting beaten
- He endured scourging (also called the half-death)
- He had a crown of thorns pressed onto His head and beaten into His brow
- He was crucified. This causes death by asphyxiation.
- The executioners were professionals… it was their JOB!
- He was pierced through the heart and lungs with a spear
- Jesus actually died and was D-E-A-D when they pulled Him off the cross
- (E)Empty Tomb:
- The female factor
- Women discovered the empty tomb… why does this give the empty tomb more credibility?
- Both the Roman and the Jewish governments acknowledged that the tomb was empty. There was never a dispute about that!
- The soldiers would not have walked away. This kind of failure would have caused them to be put to death themselves.
- (A)Appearances: 1 Corinthians 15:3-8
- Jesus appeared to, at minimum, 500 people, on 12 different occasions spread over a 40-day period of time.
- (T)Transformation:
- Jeff brings Tupac back??
- at first, the consensus was that Jesus was DEAD and NOT WORTHY OF PRAISE!
- Thomas was once a strong follower, but after the death of Jesus, he became a skeptic
- BUT THEN: John 20:25-29
- Thomas transformed from a skeptic to a martyr, dying for his conviction that he’d actually seen the risen Jesus
- The Apostle Peter: Mark 14:17
- Peter changed from a bold disciple to a bold denier of Jesus. He was even scared for his life and in hiding!
- The Historian, Tertullian, claims Peter was crucified. Church history, and writings from the 2nd century AD has Peter being crucified upside-down because he felt unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as Jesus.
- Peter went from denying Jesus to dying for his faith!!
- James, Jesus’ brother felt Jesus was insane: Mark 3:20-21
- The Historian Josephus records the sentence of James: “…so he assembled the sanhedrim of judges, and brought before them the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James, and some others; and when he had formed an accusation against them as breakers of the law, he delivered them to be stoned.”
- Even James, the brother of Jesus, changed from a person who thought Jesus was insane to someone who would give up his life because he saw Jesus risen and believed.
BIBLE CONTRADICTION
- When Jesus rose from the dead – when did the women find the tomb? After sunrise or before?
