Dave: What should we do when someone says, “I don’t believe in God”
Jeff: How about this: okay what do you mean by God? The Christian God? A deistic God? Anything Spiritual at all? Anything non-material?
Dave: ASK QUESTIONS! Why don’t you believe? What was your past like? What experiences have you had with Christianity?
Jeff: In his book Tactics, Greg Koukl says, “Asking questions enables you to escape the charge, ‘You’re twisting my words.’ A question is a request for clarification specifically so that you don’t twist their words. When I ask a clarification question, my goal is to understand a person’s view (and its consequences), not to distort it.”
Dave: Way too often discussions turn into debates where everyone wants to throw out their opinions.
Jeff: Proverbs 12:15 says, “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” Let’s make sure we aren’t the fool who just talks.
Dave: Let’s be listeners. Let’s truly hear the point of those we talk to, instead of just waiting for a place to pounce.
Jeff: We want people to believe in Jesus because we love them. So live like it.
