Audio Transcript:

Dave: People teach that in Mark 13:30 Jesus was talking about his second coming
and said, “this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have
happened.” What’s the deal? was Jesus wrong?

Jeff: In reality, Jesus was not talking about his second coming.

Dave: In our CRACKED acronym for understanding the Bible we’ll use “C” for
Context.

Jeff: The verse in question is verse 30. But, where are they when he says this?

Dave: According to verse 1, it says, “Jesus was leaving the temple” (Mark 13:1)

Jeff: Right! The Temple. And then it says, “one of his disciples said to him, ‘Look,
Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!'” (Mark 13:1)

Dave: Then Jesus answers: “Do you see all these great buildings? Not one stone
here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” (Mark 13:2)

Jeff: Ah, Jesus was talking about the destruction of the Jewish Temple, when he
said, “This generation will not pass away until these things have happened!”

Dave: Jesus said that sometime around the year AD 30 – –

Jeff: And the Temple was destroyed 40 years later, in AD 70, just as Jesus
predicted.
