Audio Transcript:
Dave: Did you know the Bible has different kinds of prophecy?
Jeff: Two different types are predictive and typological.
Dave: What’s the difference?
Jeff: Predictive prophecies are what we are most familiar with…
Dave: When God, speaking through a prophet, says something will occur in the
future – and it happens!Jeff: Right. The other kind is a “type” that points to a greater reality
Dave: We could compare it to a child’s painting of the Mona Lisa
Jeff: Actually, that’s really good- the child’s picture is very real. But, it’s primary
purpose is to point to a GREATER reality: the actual Mona Lisa.Dave: The child’s picture is a type of Mona Lisa, but not the reality.
Jeff: In the Bible, Isaiah 7:14 The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Dave: That’s a typological prophecy about Jesus.
Jeff: Right because Jesus was the reality, but the type, the shadow before Jesus
was a guy named Shala-Hash-Baz! That guy fulfilled Isaiah 7’s prophecies first and
helped save the country of Israel.Dave: A mini-messiah.
Jeff: Yeah, a shadow of the reality yet to come in Jesus.
