Dave: In Mark 3:29 Jesus says, “whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

Dave/Jeff: Scary!!

Jeff: But, what is the context here? Verse 22 shows that they had brought a demon possessed man to Jesus – This was somebody all the people knew.

Dave: They knew he was blind. They knew he was mute. The guy wasn’t faking it and he wasn’t a plant in the audience.

Jeff: But Jesus just healed him. All the sudden the guy could see and talk! And the demon was gone. Despite all this…

Dave: Then, the Pharisees say that Jesus was using Satan’s power to do this!

Jeff: Jesus not only did numerous miracles, but he fulfilled prophecy, taught correctly from the scriptures and even knew the very thoughts of the Pharisees!

Dave: Yet, there was still a purposeful rejection of Jesus as the Messiah, despite evidence.

Jeff: There was an absolute, permanent refusal to believe that Jesus is God.

Dave: And after all that, they attributed an act of the Holy Spirit, that they knew was an act of God, to Satan.
