Audio Transcript:

Dave: Let’s clear up a misconception about the Holy Spirit.

Jeff: Sounds good – but, uh, which one?! [laughter]

Dave: Acts 13:2 says, “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…”

Jeff: Now pause here for a minute – the Spirit spoke. Does a force or a person speak?

Dave: A person! And that’s what the Holy Spirit is. Not meaning he is a human person, but that he has personhood and shouldn’t be thought of as a force.

Jeff: Right! The verse continues and the Spirit says, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Dave: The Spirit has plans apparently! And work that he’s called people to accomplish.

Jeff: Again, mysterious unknown forces don’t make specific plans. The Holy Spirit has a mind of his own, makes plans, chooses people, executes those plans, and shares them!

Dave: In John 15:26-27 Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit and says, “he will testify about me.” Note, he used the word “he.”

Jeff: Not, “it” or “that mystery” – so, friends, let’s remember the Holy Spirit has personhood.
