Dave: Are Neanderthals real?
Jeff: Yes! The Neanderthal (or Neandertal) is an extinct member of the genus
Homo known, and found, in Europe and Asia.Dave: A genus is just a way of classifying biological organisms.
Jeff: Right. Neanderthals are classified as a different species from homo-sapien
(us), but sometimes as a subspecies of Homo sapiens.Dave: Generally, they lived between 30,000 years ago and 200,000 years ago.
Jeff: Compare that to us, we came around 100,000 years ago – so we existed
together.Dave: They were much stronger than modern humans, having particularly strong
arms and hands. About same height.Jeff: Here’s a cool fact…
Dave: Hit me!
Jeff: In 2010 a U.S. researcher reported finding cooked vegetable in the teeth of
a Neanderthal skull, contradicting the earlier belief that they were exclusively
carnivorous.Dave: But the big question… are they in the Bible?
Jeff: Probably not.
Dave: And that’s okay, the goal of the Bible isn’t to teach Science, paleontology, or
archeology.
